Project Partner Ama Ghar

Project Location Godawari, Laitpur

Project Duration Nov 2024 to Dec 2024

Description EcoConcern was recently consulted to provide expert advice and solutions for the malfunctioning Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System (DEWATS) at Ama Ghar, a permanent care home in Bisankhunarayan, Godawari Municipality, Kathmandu.

Ama Ghar, established in 2001 and funded by the Ama Foundation, provides shelter, education, and healthcare to around 50 homeless children, supported by a dedicated team of eight staff members. To manage its wastewater sustainably, a DEWATS system was installed within its premises in 2010 by ENPHO. This system has efficiently treated wastewater for over a decade.

However, following the massive rainfall in Kathmandu Valley on September 28, 2024, rainwater carrying debris and mud infiltrated the system, leading to the pooling of wastewater over its sand bed. In response to this issue, EcoConcern has been approached to assess the situation and recommend appropriate remediation measures to restore the system’s functionality.
